Automatic core updates
Build a system to automatically check for core updates and perform the updates according to settings and administrator input.
This request has been addressed with the new automatic update notification in Joomla 2.5. A true automatic update (without user action) won’t be done since it is considered to risky.

It is already implemented in 1.6 and it does find updates - as long as you have URL fopen() wrappers enabled on your host. That said, the upgrade experience is a far cry from being called "optimal". The upgrade leaves the installation folder behind and you still need FTP access to remove that folder before you can use your site again.

My customers dont want to upgrade(migrate) every 12-18 months or so.
For the moment I'm not working on Joomla sites because i have to give a 24 months warranty an my sites. So this could be a milestone in Joomla-development.

Some are saying this is already implemented in 1.6 - doesn't work for me, no updates are ever found. Additionally, there isn't any official info for this here [ http://docs.joomla.org/Upgrading_1.6_from_an_existing_1.6x_version ]
I was under the impression the auto-updates were for third-parties only?

I agree but it shouldn't really be 'automatic' it should at least ask if you want to update or not.

The only thing I would say about this is, it would be good to either have a md5 sum check to make sure some customizations haven't been made to the core files, or/and have a system with check boxes that allow you to say you do or don't want this or that file updated (If not it would be nice to have it show the differences of the current to the new file).

Can be done easily with Akeeba admin tools or other 3rd party extensions
And seems to be in 1.6 core
Doesn't need my vote -

This one should be marked ACCEPTED and COMPLETE. You can do it in 1.5 and it's part of the 1.6 core. To really get it working well and for all or most extensions is another issue.
