  As said many times, this is a basic feature of most CMS and frameworks. If the horrible messes of WordPress and Drupal can do it you guys can do it! Should be quite easy to route using the slugs, not the IDs in the slugs.

  It is the only thing holding Joomla back as it pretty much wipes the floor in every other aspect.

  Hey, guys! It's a basic featuer of most popular CMS excepting Joomla! why so? Is it so hard to release?

  How hard can this be?!!! It's a basic feature you expect, very surprised to see it's not already in Joomla 3.x

  I'm using some category links with year numbers and the URLs are very strange like "...101-2012.html". This makes it difficult for users to recognise the year numbers. This is why such a feature would be great - it's troublesome to create menu items or edit the router.php to get SEF URLs without ids.

  I'd like to import set of HTML pages with the prev/next/up/TOC navigation links (similar to
  http://www.sagehill.net/docbookxsl/Db5Tools.html ). Now it is barely possible as the final link URLs after import are hard to deterrmine :-(

  one of the few points that wordpress is still in front of joomla
  we need have the choice to show or not the ids in urls

  Yes, please do this! I don't see any advantage to being forced to use article IDs in our URLs.

  I also agree, I think the Joomla crew are getting on their nervs with this, many people asking about this feature... big fail
