  to make – individual (from title in h1/h2 headers) title tag editing support in each article/category.

  Correct, keywords and descriptions can be changed on a per item basis since Joomla 1.6.

  If i understand Joomla correct the Meta Description and Meta Keywords are already on each article. So those two items are correct.

  All that needs to be added/coded is the Meta Title.

  Does anyone know why this has not been done? Is there a tecnical reason why it can not be done?

  There is component in Joomla 1.6 named Redirect Manager which suppose to manage with 301 redirects: http://docs.joomla.org/Help16:Components_Redirect_Manager

  As for metas, there is only one thing left to make – individual (from title in h1/h2 headers) title tag editing support in each article/category.
